You Came Here for One of Two Reasons

...you and your partner have quit talking about anything that matters, and you’re the one who finally went looking for help.

...somebody asked you to come, you agreed to look, and you’re reading this with your guard up.

Both are honest places to start. The second one is the more common of the two.

The Two of You Are Merely Coexisting

Don* and Melissa* have been married 15 years and are raising three children. They’re financially stable, with two careers and a calendar built around the kids.

Somewhere in all of that, their focus on each other dropped away. Now they prefer time apart, and the simplest exchange turns into an argument where neither one feels heard.

Both carry unresolved childhood issues into it. She’s type A, he’s type B, and the difference generates conflict most weeks.

Melissa wants to try counseling. Don is ready to part ways.

Nobody Asks How You Are

Jordan* is in his mid-thirties. He provides for a small family, performs well everywhere he’s involved, and keeps a good attitude on the outside.

He lost both his parents recently and is struggling with the grief. At home, he feels unvalued and unseen, and often he suspects nothing he does will ever be enough.

He believes that telling his wife or his coworkers any of this would cost him their confidence, so he always stays strong.

He has no one to talk to, because no one listens. He is alone.

When Escaping Became Easier Than Facing It

Damen* made some poor financial and personal decisions, and he found that escaping into unhealthy habits made them easier to ignore. For a while, those habits gave him relief from the shame, stress, and self-criticism that followed.

What started as an occasional escape gradually became something he relied on every day. He’s tried to change these patterns on his own several times but hasn’t managed to break free from them.

His wife has started talking about leaving.

You Watch Your Friends Get the Life You Wanted

Jason* is 30 and angry, and he’ll tell you life has not been fair to him. He’s dealt with a lot of loss.

His high school and college friends have done well for themselves. Jason is still in a low-paying job he never wanted, and he’s jealous enough of his friends that he’s quit answering when they reach out.

He feels hopeless.

You Waited Longer Than You Meant To

Everyone on this page waited a long while before reaching out. Most people do.

The ones who got somewhere had one thing in common. They were willing to say the true thing out loud to somebody who wouldn’t flinch at it.

That’s where we start.

John Crapo, LPC in TN, LCMHC in NC, LCAS in NC

Hi, I’m John.

I see you, and I’m going to tell you the truth.

My wife and I have been married for 43 years. That’s long enough that I don’t get surprised by much of what you bring me.

When a negative thought process shows up, we name it and look at it while it’s still in the room.

Humor belongs in the heavy sessions, too.

Your Faith Is Welcome Here, Whatever It Is

Christianity is the foundation of my life, and biblical principles belong in our discussions if you want them there. I hold that identity openly without using it as a gate.

We’ll read from Scripture when it helps. If your faith is different, that will be openly accepted.

The faith piece shows up in how I hold the room. In the values, the steadiness, the respect for what people believe. It has never been a requirement for entry.

More About Me

Don’t Be Jason

Jason looked at the opportunity and decided it wasn’t worth checking out.

A complimentary consultation is where the two of us work out whether I’m the one who can help you.
